HT, 10 July 2016, DARJEELING: President Pranab Mukherjee, Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will be arriving to a grand reception in the Queen of the Hills. 

The Gorkha National Liberation Front(GNLF) has decided to form a human chain all along the route from Simulbaree near Siliguri in the plains to the Darjeeling railway station to welcome the CM on July 11. 
Even the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) has switched on to reconciliation mode after the recently concluded Assembly elections. The party will be according a welcome to the CM. Earlier, relations between the state government and the GJM had soured over various issues.
The CM will be arriving in Darjeeling on July 11, a day ahead of the President and Governor. The TMC, GNLF and Jan Andolan Party (JAP) supporters will be present all along the route to accord a welcome to the CM. The three political outfits had formed a coalition in the Hills during the last Assembly elections.
“We invite all organisation, associations and Hill people to join the human chain to welcome the chief minister,” appealed Mahendra Chettri, general secretary, GNLF. This Hill outfit has resurrected the demand for 6th Schedule status for the area and claims that the demand enjoys support of the CM.
“We will welcome the President, Governor and the chief minister to Darjeeling. Welcome gates have been constructed all along the route,” said Roshan Giri, GJM general secretary and member of the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA).
A seven- member GTA delegation led by GTA chief Bimal Gurung will meet President Pranab Mukherjee in Darjeeling. “The date and time has not been fixed yet. Issues pertaining to the GTA will be discussed in the meeting,” said Binay Tamang, GTA member.
The GJM if invited will attend the state government programmes in Darjeeling, remarked Giri. “We will also meet the CM and submit a memorandum,” added Giri.
On July 12, President Mukherjee will be arriving by helicopter to Darjeeling. He will attend a state reception at Chowrasta at 5pm on the same day. On July 13, the President, Governor and the CM will attend the birth anniversary celebrations of Nepali poet Acharya Bhanubhakta at 3pm at the Darjeeling Chowrasta.
On July 14 the President will attend the annual general meeting of the Darjeeling Tea Association at 11am at the Gorkha Ranga Mancha in Darjeeling.
