Prashant Acharya, EOI, Siliguri, 22 Jul 2016: The Gorkha community of Bagdogra and its environs will felicitate Everest climbers Sulaxchana Tamang and Trishala Gurung as also Siliguri police commissioner CS Lepcha  this Sunday, July 24 at Danra Gaon, Upper Bagdogra. The event, which will also feature a musical programme by musicians of yesteryear and upcoming ones, is being hosted by Gyunden Jamling Samten  Sangba Gumba of Danra Gaon with active support from social organisations of the Terai.
Gyunden Jamling Samten Sangba Gumba secretary Akash Tamang said, “Three gems from our community, the police commissioner, and Everesters Trishala and Sulaxchana will be felicitated  in the presence of thousands of people of the Terai region.”
The three will first be welcomed at the Tenzing Norgay Club of Bagdogra and then escorted to the Gumba in a grand procession where artistes will perform traditional dances and folk songs.
Ratan Bomzon, chief advisor of the Gumba, said veteran singers from Darjeeling district will be performing at the programme. He said more than 5,000 people are expected.
Trishala, who started the ascent to Mount Everest from base camp on May 19, scaled the peak on May 22, while Sulaxchana started a day earlier and was atop Everest on May 21.
CS Lepcha took charge as Siliguri police commissioner on June 10 to become the first lady police commissioner in West Bengal.
